54:35-14. Search of records of Clerk of Superior Court or surrogate of county The Director of the Division of Taxation or any of his employees may examine any and all papers, documents and files which now are or hereafter may be filed or lodged with the Clerk of the Superior Court or the surrogate of any county or with any other official of this State or of any municipality thereof, or with any person or corporation, for the purpose of ascertaining what property, if any, is or shall be liable to the tax provided for by chapters thirty-three to thirty-six of this Title (s. 54:33-1 et seq.).
