54:1-2. Department; powers and duties The department shall exercise exclusively all the powers and perform all the duties formerly exercised or performed by or conferred and imposed upon the state board of taxes and assessment, except those relating to the review, hearing and determination of appeals concerning the assessment, collection, apportionment or equalization of taxes, and shall have such other and further powers and perform such other and further duties in connection with the assessment, collection, apportionment and equalization of taxes and the administration of the tax laws, as may from time to time be conferred or imposed upon it.
