53:1-20.11. Participation in Violent Criminal Apprehension Program 2. The Division of State Police in the Department of Law and Public Safety shall be responsible for fostering and coordinating any participation by State and local law enforcement agencies in the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any such activity shall be conducted in conjunction with the division's Homicide Evaluation and Assessment Tracking (HEAT) program. The division may maintain a Statewide central registry which shall include, but not be limited to, information regarding: (1) Solved or unsolved homicides or homicide attempts, especially those that involve abduction; appear to be random, motiveless or sexually motivated; or are known or suspected to be part of a series. (2) Missing persons, where the circumstances indicate possible foul play. (3) Unidentified dead bodies, where the manner of death is known or suspected to be homicide. L.1992,c.22,s.2.
