48:4-51. Evidence of financial coverage; driver to have in possession and exhibit upon request The driver of every motor vehicle carrying passengers for hire shall have in his possession and exhibit for inspection when requested by any proper person, either (a) the original policy of insurance covering such vehicle or (b) a certificate thereof issued by the insurance company; or (c) if a self-insurer, a certificate of such self-insurance issued by the official, board or body authorized by law to permit such self-insurance.
