45:8B-44. Clinical mental health counselor 11. a. The board shall grant to any licensed professional counselor who has satisfied the requirements of this section, the professional specialty designation of clinical mental health counselor. A licensed professional counselor with the designation of clinical mental health counselor shall be authorized to provide counseling services that include, but are not limited to, the preliminary diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders, psychoeducational techniques aimed at the prevention of these disorders, consultations, and clinical research into more effective treatment modalities. b. Each applicant for the designation of clinical mental health counselor shall furnish evidence satisfactory to the committee that the following requirements have been met: (1) Certification by the Academy of Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselors, or any successor thereto; passage of a comprehensive qualifying examination prepared by the Academy; evidence satisfactory to the committee that the clinical mental health counselor has satisfied the continuing education requirements of the committee; and, evidence satisfactory to the committee that certification of the clinical mental health counselor has been renewed by the Academy; (2) 60 credit hours in a mental health field at an accredited institution of higher education; and (3) Two years of post-master's degree field experience, which includes at least 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience and 100 hours of face-to-face supervision.
