30:9-12.23. Board of managers; appointment; term; vacancies; compensation; expenses The board of freeholders of any such county establishing and maintaining a county institution under authority of this act may appoint a board of managers consisting of 9 residents of the county, irrespective of religious or political belief. Appointed annually to the board of managers shall be the county physician, the director of the county welfare board and one member of the board of chosen freeholders of the county. Of the remaining 6 members, who shall be first appointed, at least one of whom shall be a woman, 2 members shall be appointed for a term of 1 year, 2 members for a term of 2 years, and 2 members for a term of 3 years. All such members thereafter appointed shall serve for the term of 3 years and all vacancies shall be filled by the board of chosen freeholders for the unexpired term only. No physician member of the board of managers shall treat patients in said county institution. The members of the board of managers shall serve without compensation but their necessary expenses shall be allowed and paid in the same manner as other expenses of the county institution.
