Amercement of bail; arrest and imprisonment of defendant

2A:15-44. Amercement of bail; arrest and imprisonment of defendant If the bail fails to bring in the body of the defendant when ordered by the court, they shall be amerced in a sum not exceeding plaintiff's debt or demand, with costs. The amercement shall have the force and effect of a judgment, upon which execution in the name and for the use of the plaintiff may be awarded if the court so directs; or in lieu of amercement, the court may arrest and commit the defendant as if upon a capias.
