26:2H-18.60b Findings, declarations relative to oversight of the hospital charity care subsidy program. 2. The Legislature finds and declares that it is manifestly in the best interest of this State and its taxpayers to enact into law certain recommendations made by the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation in its April 2007 report on the hospital charity care subsidy program and to implement additional measures which are designed to prevent real and potential waste, fraud, and abuse in this program and ensure that it serves its intended purpose of assisting hospitals to meet their statutory obligations and fulfill their mission as essential health care providers to the residents of this State.
