Chief officer of the department

18A:4-22. Chief officer of the department The commissioner shall be: (a) The chief executive and administrative officer of the department having general charge and supervision of the work of the department; (b) The official agent of the state board for all purposes; (c) The budget request officer and the approval officer of the department, with power to delegate the duties of such officers as in this chapter provided; (d) Authorized, subject to law, to designate one of the assistant commissioners to act in his place and stead, during his absence, and to assign duties to the assistant commissioners, to the directors of the special services, to the secretary of the state board of examiners and to the inspectors, assistants and employees of the department.
