17:16N-7. Violation, penalty 7. Upon a finding by the commissioner, after notice and an opportunity for hearing, of a violation by any depository institution of any provision of this act, or any regulation or order of the commissioner issued pursuant thereto, the commissioner may order the depository institution to cease any violation or to pay a civil penalty not in excess of $500 for each day that the violation has continued, or both, the penalty being recoverable under "the penalty enforcement law" (N.J.S.2A:58-1 et seq.).
